WHY HAS THE INITIATIVE BEEN FOUNDED OR RENEWED?

  • Basic idea as a lean working group in 2018 as a joint project of the University Institute for Logistics and the Volkswagen factory in Emden.
  • At that time, exchange on various topics of lean management as well as consideration of the approaches of the respective participants at their own location.
  • In addition to the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer and VW Emden, further participants with Bernhard Krone, Leoni Cables and ELA Container in 2018.
  • Expansion of the initiative's focus to include optimization approaches in the areas of technology, organisation and personnel in addition to lean management topics.
  • Active follow-up to the wish of regional companies for an exchange of experience among themselves, practical examples and support in process optimization (representative survey by the university, 2021).

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?

The initiative "Operational Excellence" is supervised by professor doctor Dirk Schleuter and graduate engineer Jens Janßen.

Professor doctor Dirk Schleuter
has been working at the Department of Economics at University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer since 2014 and can fall back on many years of experience in optimizing processes in production and service companies.

Graduate engineer Jens Janßen
is a sub-department manager in the production system at the VW plant in Emden and brings along 30 years of experience in QA (quality assurance) as well as various lean management topics from different car manufacturers and suppliers.
